Help with the study helper

Everything about the between-lesson study helper — what it is, what it can do, and how we keep it safe. Can't find an answer? Email us any time.

How it works

A study companion for the time between lessons — your tutor stays in charge of what you learn.

  1. Open the study helper

It's on your dashboard under Study helper. It already knows your subjects, your level and what you covered recently — you don't need to explain.

  2. Ask about anything from your lessons

Stuck on a topic? Ask. It explains step by step, at your level, and checks you've understood.

  3. Ask for practice

Say "give me some practice" and it sets short exercises, then marks your attempt kindly and shows you where you went wrong.

  4. Bring the tricky bits to your next lesson

Anything still confusing is perfect for your tutor — they can read your chats, so they'll pick up right where you left off.

The helper only talks about schoolwork in your subjects — it's not for general chat, and it never replaces your tutor.

For students

What is the study helper?
A friendly AI study companion for the time between your lessons. It knows the subjects you study on fair-do and what you've covered recently, so its answers fit where you are — it's there for questions, explanations and practice.
Can it do my homework for me?
No — and that's on purpose. It won't write graded homework, coursework or exam answers for you, but it will help you understand how to do them yourself, step by step.
Why won't it chat about other things?
It's built for schoolwork only. Ask it about anything else and it will kindly steer you back to your studies — that's a safety feature, not a bug.
Are my chats private?
Your tutor can read your study helper chats — that's deliberate, and the page tells you so. It keeps the helper safe and helps your tutor plan your next lesson. Don't share personal details in the chat — you never need to.
Why can't I use it, or why did it stop replying?
The helper comes with your tutor's plan, so it isn't switched on for everyone. There's also a daily message limit to keep sessions short and focused — if you hit it, take a break and come back tomorrow. Your tutor can always help in the meantime.

For parents

Is it safe for my child?
It's built for young people first: it only discusses schoolwork, never exchanges contact details, never pretends to be the tutor, and every chat is visible to your child's tutor. If a child mentions anything worrying, it stops tutoring and signposts a trusted adult and Childline (0800 1111) rather than trying to counsel.
Does it replace the tutor?
No. It's a between-lesson companion that encourages your child to bring important or confusing things to their next lesson. The tutor stays the authority on what to study.
What does it know about my child?
Only what it needs: their first name, the subjects and level they study with their fair-do tutor, their goals (like a target grade), and topics from recent lesson notes their tutor approved. Nothing else.
How much does it cost?
Nothing extra — it's included in the tutor's plan. Usage has sensible daily limits.
